Like everyone who tastes these little Maui treasures, we had to find others that could satisfy our unnatural desire for these cookie-filled pie-snack cake. The crispy manju from Home Maid Bakery on Maui was our 5-star; now it's Sam Sato's. there are other types (like the traditional Japanese manju), but this is our quest... Hawaiian-style manju.

We tried to find manju at several bakeries without success: Moana Bakery (Paia), Shishido Manju Shop (closed permanently?), and T Komoda in Makawao.

Sam Sato's

We're going back for more... SOON!
Less greasy and flavorful.

Home Maid Bakery

The best ones are a bit browner. Easiest to find; carried by several groceries like Foodland and at the Home Maid Bakery. We like the Delux (Adzuki Bean), Coconut, and Sweet Potato (the fabulous Hawaiian Purple Sweet Potato).
